I am starting up my own online Business from home, What software, supplies, equipment do I need to start off?

Posted: 22 Feb 2011 03:20 PM PST

I am in the process of starting my own Online Business (retail store), and I want to make sure that I cover all ends of the business part of it. What software should I have on my computers / LapTop? When starting a new business like the one I am starting, do I need to have Server’s set up already? What equipment or Office products should I have in my Computer Room? (that is where my office for the online business will be for now, until I make good money and I rent out a office space / warehouse space somewhere) . Are Server’s very important when it comes to running a business online? what advice could you give someone like me who is just starting off? I want to be prepared for everything, I want to work very very hard on Customer Service, I feel without a good Customer Service your company would not stand out as a reliable company, one that customers would spread the word about the service they received. Word to mouch is one of the best advertising tactics for any company. Any advice?

What online business idea should I choose?

Posted: 22 Feb 2011 03:20 PM PST

I really want to make six or more figures online. I have a few online business ideas but I am not sure if you think any of the ideas are profitable and could make me six or more figures a year? The online business ideas are….

Idea 1. The first idea is a website where I sell office chairs. I would get the office chairs from a dropshipper and drop ship the chairs, or I would get them from a wholesale company and ship them myself. Since many home businesses are starting, more people are buying office furniture for their home business. Office furniture is a billion dollar industry. I heard of a kid named Sean Belnick who grosses 24 million dollars a year from selling office chairs online. I know there is some competition in this industry, but not too much. Do you think this online business idea could make me six or more figures a year?

Idea 2. The second online business idea is a website on songwriting. The website would contain a ton of content through articles, how-to’s, and reviews on the topic of songwriting since I have a lot of knowledge about the topic. Once I get traffic, I would ad some ads, google adsense, and relevant affiliate products on my site to monetize. Do you think this online business idea could make me six or more figures a year?

Idea 3. This idea is cool, but since there are already sites that do this, it could be challenging. The third idea is a website where users can buy, trade, and sell gift cards for money. I would make profit by charging the seller a small fee if their gift card makes a successfull sale. Do you think this online business idea could make me six or more figures a year?

Idea 4. I like this idea a lot. The last idea is a website where users who sign up for free can submit their origninal songs (that they must have rights to). Other users can listen, rate, comment, and share songs with friends. Submitted songs can be entered into the top 10 list by having the most hits and best rates. Users can also friend eachother and chat in a chat room. Say a user submits a new song, he can choose the option to have all of his friends notified about the song. So basically the site is an online community where users can listen to new music, share, comment, post original songs for feedback, and communicate with other members. The site would be free to use, but I would make money from ads. I am getting a quote from a web design firm right now, but I would probably be paying 5-10k for this site to get up and running. Do you think this online business idea could make me six or more figures a year?

Out of all the ideas, I think Idea 1 is the most profitable since I would be making 0 dollar profit per chair, but I want to hear what you think. Do you think any of these online business ideas could make me six or more figures a year?

How to start my own gourmet treats business from home for sell via the internet? What steps do I need to take?

I am a married stay at home mom of 3 boys. My husband works but at this time one income is not enough for a family. I love to bake and make desserts. I am looking for info on how to start my own business online to sell my desserts. I live in Maryland and wanted to know what licenses and requirements there are to use my kitchen at home to bake and sell these items online. I am also looking for info on any legit work from home business that does not require me to sell anything (i.e. Mary Kay, Avon, insurance etc.) I am not much of a seller, unless it is something that really interests me like my desserts. I have applied for LiveOps before but they were not hiring at the time. I have seen a couple of sites that say own your own online Dollar Store and Shopping Mall, and they say that they do not require any type of money or fees to get started and all you have to do is pick the items that you want to have in your online store. Thanks everyone for all and any help I recieve.

I’m want to start an online business but don’t know how to go about doing it. Any advice?

I am looking to start an online business. I’ve already got the idea of what i’m going to be selling and have even found distributors and looked over the products. How do I go about purchasing a domain and finding a web host? How much do these usually cost? How do I register my business? And, how do I go about accepting payments? Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

I am about to start an online business, Web 3.0 based, user (peer to peer) reviews oriented.
I’ll need some help finding the next “Yahoo”, “Google”, “Apple”, business name, reflecting my proposed business object.

Keywords: review(s), opinion(s), critique, evaluation, insight, revue, impression, personal/public opinion, rating(s), speak-up.
I am considering a 5 to 7 letters name, something similar to:
Vimeo
ZigTag
Joomla
Kijiji
Jott
Digg
Pipl
Skype
Wired
etc.

Thank you anticipated for your time and effort.

How to get small online business started?

Posted: 22 Feb 2011 10:20 AM PST

I’m looking to start a small business online as a copyediting consultant – I’ll be doing projects for other companies editing their ad copy, web content, etc. on a contract basis; and I’ll be editing any other documents that individuals might have, including resumes and the like.

I want to do this under a business name rather than my own name, so I know I’ll have to file a DBA, but how would I go about that?

Because I have no idea how far my business will go, I want to start small. Has anyone else done a similar business venture in which startup costs are rather affordable? I’d like to hear experiences from consultants in any field who do business either mainly or entirely online.

One concern I have is networking: did you do unpaid internships to establish business contacts and expand your resume and portfolio, or did you do freelance projects? Any ideas on how to go about this consulting venture would be appreciated!

Thanks for any advice and insight.
