| Vista premium vs. vista business? Posted: 21 Jul 2011 05:23 PM PDT okay, I am getting a laptop tomorrow and I have it narrowed down to two, identical except one have vista business and one has vista premium. I can get the one with business tomorrow at the store, but the one with premium is only available online at the moment. HP dv2220 vs. the HP dv2221. from what I see in teh additional multimedia software that comes on both computers I think that most of the things like photo and music stuff are provided with hp and 3rd party software bundled on the computers. I am not using it for business, but the security features sound apealing that come with business…however will I miss an premium features? like media center. etc. or will teh other bundled software make up for it. please help. thanks =) |

| Which online business idea should I pick? Posted: 21 Jul 2011 02:21 PM PDT Over the summer, I want to start an online business/company. I have some coding knowledge and I have a few ideas for the business. Some of the ideas are informational sites, and most are user interactive websites. My goal is to eventually make six or more figures a year. I love all of my ideas, but I’m not sure which to choose. 1. A website where users can submit original songs and other users can listen, rate, comment, share, and chat with other users. Useers can also create a profile page and place info on the page. Revenue: selling ad space, possibly creating a pro membership. 2. This would be a service. It would be online concierge or your own online butler. For people who don’t have time to schedule stuff, they would pay a monthly fee and a person would complete the action for you whenever you want except. Your butler serves you from 8 am to 10pm. I would start off by myself when the business gets started, and then will hire more people as the business grows. Revenue: monthly fees 3. A debate website where users could create a debate, and other users could post comments and argue on why they think they agree with the statement, or disagree. Based on them saying they agree or not, thee comment will be placed under an agree column or disagree. Revenue: selling ad space 4. A website where people can list their gift cards for sale,trade,or auction and other people can buy the cards for an under worth price. So let’s say someone has an unwanted card to target for 5. They recieved it as a gift so they did not pay anything for it. They could easily sell the 125 card for 0 . A person wants the card, so they buy it for 0 . I take a 4% fee and the seller gets for a card he never wanted. Revenue: selling ad space, charging small fee 5. A website that has reviews, videos, articles on cell phones. I would have tons of content to bring in traffic. I would join verizon AT&T and sprints affiliate programs and sell their phones on my site. Revenue: affiliate marketing, selling ad space. 6. A website where people can sell,trade,auction, and buy websites. The person could post a snapshot, price, and info on the wewbsite, and anyone who wants it could buy it. I would take a small 4% fee. Revenue: small fee, selling ad space Those are my ideas. Which do you think is more profitable? Which should I do? Which could eventually make me six or more figures a year? Even if you don’t think any are good, which would you choose if you had to? Thanks! |

My mom mentioned creating an online business to help raise money for school – something I can do on the side and continue doing throughout college – while also improving my skills. I think this would be neat, however, I am stuck when it comes to ideas. I have a passion for marketing and advertising, but I also enjoy creating simple things people can use every day. Is there a way to incorporate both into a successful business? Any ideas to get this started? And finally, If and when I do make that business, how do I spread the word? Thanks for all the help! |

Posted: 21 Jul 2011 12:20 PM PDT I am currently ridiculously miserable living in my hometown and would love the chance to move to Austin. I am currently enrolled at a university but am unable to transfer to a university in or near Austin because unfortunately I have done poorly and my GPA won’t be considered. My university offers online courses for my Business major. I wanted to know if it would be a good idea to leave my hometown and move to Austin, while still enrolled at my university online, pick up my GPA and then try to transfer into UT Austin? |

| Posted: 21 Jul 2011 10:22 AM PDT I am studying to get my BA of science… right now my major is Organizational communications. I am kinda curious if this is a good major. I have a strong acting/public speaking background and would love to run a nonprofit business someday or have a creative job in PR or Marketing. I am taking the classes online and they didnt offer PR or Marketing so i chose Organizational Communications because it seems like a good major that will allow many job opportunities. Am I making the right choice? Also, i have to pick a focus of study. I can chose from Criminal Justice, Health Management, Human Resource Management, Management, and Political Science. Out of those choices what would the best on be? |
