selling home baked goods in the community?

Posted: 17 Jul 2011 02:19 PM PDT

My sister LOVES to bake and she is amazing at it! She has a column in her local online magazine for their cooking column. But, she needs some extra cash and she’s thinking of ways to sell her desserts without going through getting a business license/dealing with health inspections. Does anyone have any ideas of how she could get her name out there and sell her baked goods in the community? Thanks!

Might his attraction to me be genuine or more green card induced?

I met a guy online from the Middle East. He’s here on a visa that expires in like 4.5 months. When we first chatted he told me he has no interest in returning home, but plans to visit. We only communicate by phone because when we met online he lived near me, but shortly thereafter moved a few states away to be near family. He moved before we could meet in person.

He’s been the sweetest guy and we get along VERY well… He told me last night that his uncle had told him about a woman that would take ,000 payments from a guy that wants to stay in the country. He said in his country it was expected of a guy to give the girl’s family a dowery, which he couldn’t afford–so he’s still single. I explained that not only is that illegal in the US, but it’s a business arrangement, not a “marriage”. He said he wants to get married and actually have a “marriage” and a ton of kids to go along with it. He also lets it be known (as often as possible) how much he adores me and has even started calling me “Habibi” (i think that’s how it’s spelled) whereas he used to only call me by my first name.

Before he left my state, he asked if we continue to like each other would I be open to marrying him… I do like him, but am concerned. He wants to stay in the US… and wants to be married.

Could his interest in me be more green card related or does he sound like he’s genuinly looking for a wife?

I’m also VERY Christian which he knows.
He’s 30 and I’m 31. Him asking me about marriage so soon is what has me concerned… but again, he didn’t ask me to marry him tomorrow. I guess he doesn’t want to waste time pursuing someone that has no interest in marriage or marrying him! …But I agree it’s a bit early to be discussing marriage.
LOL! Oh cool… I’d go from being a friend to a wife, that is if I marry him.

I’ve been teaching him about American girls and way of life and he tries to show me the Middle East and Islam from his point of view. I suppose courtship and engagment will have to be one of our many “lessons”… LOL!
He knows I’m (back) in college, so I could tell him I’d rather finish school before marrying. But then again he doesn’t understand why American women work instead of being home with their families. I’d make ,000 a yr fresh out of college… more than I’m sure he’d be able to make without a degree…

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll mention it later during our nightly phone call.

Help needed to make presentation on case study (two faces of JCpenney). please help?

Two Faces of J.C. penney

In 2000, Dallas retailer Jcpenney (JCpenney.con) enhanced its e-retail position in time for the holiday rush by adding homegrown site features that let customers more quickly locate and pay for merchandise. With JcPenney.com, the company unveiled express checkout services that let customers zip through a purchase in as few as two clicks. It also inaugurated electronic gift certificates that can be redeemed online, plus improved order tracking to give customers more accurate delivery estimates. These features followed the earty November 2000 launch of Mercado Search, a search engine that lets shoppers prowl JcPenney’s site by product category and receive results ranked according to relevance. In 2001, the company rolled out specialized sites dedicated to name-brand merchandise, making it easier for customers to find ceriain products. All these steps were designed to boost the company’s online strategy.

The success of JCPenney, com, in large measure, is a result of a customer service and logistics infrastructure built to support a multibillion-dollar catalog business that has been extended online. JcPenney.com broadened its appeal by launching specialiy sites to promote high margin brands, including Sony, Levi Strauss, Nike, and Kitchen Aid (appliances) The idea is to drive purchases of name-brand merchandise by providing more detailed information on those products, as well as direct links to the manufacturers. JcPenney is also conducting auctlons on its Web site.

The company boasts strong integration between its Web site and its offline infrastructure that helps the site reach its aggressive sales targets. Anything purchased online can be picked up or returned at any JcPenney or Eckerd store. JCPenney has 14 customer-service centers nationwide that handle catalog and phone inquiries, and employees have been cross-trained in e-mail United Parcel Service (UPS) delivers most merchandise ordered online within 24 to 72 hours.

JCPenney serves customers via three sales channels – stores, catalogs, and the Web site. Integrating these three channels will eventually play off, according to Forrester Research analyst Seema Williams “As the number of on-line shoppers grows, the impact from multiple channels will be felt much more on JcPenney’s bottom line,” Williams said.

Despite the strong Web performance, e-commerce alone most likely cannot turn around a company of JCPenney’s size. “The Web is such a small part of their business; there’s no way it’s going to turn around the company,” said an expert. “The Web is icing on the cake, but the biggest pad of the company, by far, is struggling

What is someone perspective of cyber culture online shopping verses shopping over the counter?

Posted: 17 Jul 2011 08:25 AM PDT

If you are or are not a frequent user of the internet? If so, what is your perspective of the pro’s and con’s of shopping online (eBay) verses shopping over the counter(Wal*mart). What are the cultural, identity, and diversity, traits influences you perspective of why you as a consumer chooses to purchase products from either online or over the counter? Do you feel like the internet has adapted to mufti-cultural groups and has this cyber culture bridged the gap between the way we do business, as well as purchase products? Finally, do you feel the internet has stimulated the economy and why? I am looking for other perspectives from people all over the world to give my perspective of the internet as I have written a essay an I am looking for mufti-cultural view points. I am attaching a abstract from the essay I have already written on. I can not give the full essay at this time it is being reviewed for possible publication by my teachers at college. Thank you for your time and opinion it is much appreciated.

Abstract:
Despite the fact, that the internet has become widely used in homes around the world the fact remains that people still hesitate to shop online. When in all actuality the online marketplaces of today bring a newfound level of convenience to today's way of life. Despite the generation that believed in doing business over the counter. The cyberculture way of life becomes more engrained in us through everyday advertising and marketing. This new marketplace grows and becomes stronger everyday because of the ability of the shopper to search for price discounts, their ability to window shop from home and view a wider range of products before making their selection, and the opportunity to purchase products otherwise unavailable in their local marketplace. The internet and the options of being able to shop online through such websites as eBay, allows individuals the opportunities to view products and the options to purchase them from their home, without location, time restriction, or limited access of products. The availability to shop online has open doorways to ethnic individuals, low income families, as well as the handicap people in the global world. Even, with the ability to shop online in today's society, there are many variables that play a deciding factor of those choices, such as (CAB) better known as "beliefs or cognition, affect, and behavior."(Holbrook 1986 para.2 p.2) All of these things were designed to contribute directly to a healthier economy on a global level.
